Construction activities and events through May 6

Repair work to a fence takes place at Heritage Park Thursday. Scheduled events will increase vehicle and pedestrian traffic Friday, Saturday, and Wednesday.

Why

A falling tree recently destroyed a section of the fence between the park and the railroad tracks. We’re repairing the fence.

Impacts

Travelers through the park should use the adjacent pedestrian path.

Event: Peace Officers Memorial, Medal of Honor Ceremony

Friday, May 2, 6:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Event takes place noon – 1:30 p.m.

12th Avenue SW will be closed between Cherry Lane and Pleasant Lane.

Event: Paws 4 a Cause fundraiser

When

Saturday, May 2, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. Event runs 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Where

Heritage Park, Marathon Park, and Deschutes Parkway

Impacts

Organizers expect more than 500 attendees and at least 150 dogs, causing heavier-than-normal pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Dog walkers will travel around Capitol Lake.

The City of Olympia will close Water Street between Fifth Avenue and Legion Way.

Event: Washington State Law Enforcement Memorial Remembrance Walk/Run

Saturday, May 3, 6 a.m. – 2 p.m. Event takes place 8 a.m. – noon.

Heritage Park, Marathon Park, Temple of Justice south steps, and the Law Enforcement Memorial

Impacts

12th Avenue SW will be closed between Cherry Lane and Pleasant Lane. Expect a rifle volley at 1 p.m.

East Campus Plaza

Impacts

An estimated 2,000 attendees will increase foot and vehicle traffic and demand for parking.
