A guided look into the Deschutes Estuary's future

More than 300 visitors spent a recent Saturday morning learning about the upcoming restoration of the historic Deschutes Estuary.

During more than a dozen tours along the shoreline, they looked at the project’s benefits to public safety, water quality, and the environment.

Since July 2025, the Department of Ecology has led planning for restoration of the future estuary. The design should be nearly complete later this year.
