New additions to library featured in tours at Governor’s Mansion
April tours showcase some of the books recently added to the mansion’s library.
For National Library Month, free tours of the Governor's Mansion showcase some of the books recently added to the mansion's private library collection.
Tours take place Wednesday, April 1 and Wednesday, April 8. Sign up for a tour.
The library contains items of current-day and historic interest. New additions on display in April include:
- "Indians of the Pacific Northwest: From the Coming of the White Man to the Present Day," by Vine Deloria, Jr. (1977), a classic history of the region's indigenous peoples.
- "Lightning Boldt: Judge George H. Boldt and a Defining Moment in Tribal Sovereignty," by John C. Hughes (2024). The life and times of the federal judge responsible for upholding the treaty rights of Native tribes in the state's fisheries.
- "Over Washington," by Murray Morgan and Harald Sund (1989). The book's aerial photographs show the state's rivers, mountains, farmlands, dams, cities, marinas, beaches, parks, highways, industries, and historic sites.
- "Pacific Tugboats," by Gordon Newell and Joe Williamson (1957), describing working boats from California to British Columbia.
- "The Evergreen Fleet: A Pictorial History of Washington State Ferries," by Harre DeMoro (1971), with route maps and descriptions of the boats comprising the nation's largest ferry system.
- "Trailblazing Black Women of Washington State," by Marilyn Morgan (2022), devoted to 26 outstanding individuals and three organizations profoundly shaped by Black women.
