Guidelines for the Media

DES helps coordinate access to Capitol Campus for media who report on state government and events that happen here. Members of the media should follow these guidelines when they are on the Capitol Campus.

Recording equipment

All camera equipment that touches a surface inside a building on Capitol Campus, such as a tripod or light stand, must have padded feet to protect flooring and other surfaces. Media should be mindful of fixtures and historical features in the buildings that can be damaged when they carry and set up equipment though buildings.

Access

Members of the media are allowed in public areas. Please do not block areas that may impede others’ access, such as ramps, stairways, elevators, and doorways.

Stewardship

DES staff are the stewards of Washington state's Capitol Campus. Please follow their instructions and be courteous as they assist you.

Parking

DES manages parking on the state Capitol Campus. To lease a parking spot or inquire about prepaid parking options, contact DES Parking Services.
