Law enforcement training will close portions of Capitol Campus Thursday evening

A map showing the impacted area of campus that includes the area from the Governor's Mansion on the west border, the Joel Pritchard construction site on the south border, the Legislative Modular Building and Temple of Justice on the north border, and the Irv Newhouse construction site on the east border.  However, the Insurance Building is not within the impacted area.

Training helps protect visitors, employees, and elected officials.

On Thursday, Aug. 22, law enforcement agencies will conduct an emergency response training on the Capitol Campus.

Law enforcement presence will be highly visible starting at 3 p.m. west of Cherry Lane. People nearby may hear loud noises during the training, which is scheduled to continue until midnight.

The Legislative Building and surrounding areas will be closed at the following times:

  • 4 p.m.: Parking south of the Legislative Building.
  • 5 p.m.: Legislative Building and areas surrounding the building.

Law enforcement agencies are conducting the exercise to uphold their mission to protect visitors, employees, and elected officials. Participating agencies include the Washington State Patrol, Olympia Police Department, Thurston County Sheriff’s SWAT Team, and DES Capitol Security & Visitor Services.
