DES to close Water Street, 11th Avenue for several weeks to install vehicle barrier

Water Street and 11th Avenue Southwest to close Sept. 16 until early November.

What: DES is installing a vehicle barrier at a key entry point to West Campus. The barrier, which is level with the roadway, can be raised in the event of a threat to the safety of Capitol visitors, workers, or public officials. 

Where: Water Street and 11th Avenue Southwest, between Cherry Lane Southwest and Columbia Street Southwest, on the West Campus. 

When: Work is expected to begin Monday, Sept. 16, and end in early November. 

Impacts:

  • DES will close Water Street Southwest and a portion of 11th Avenue Southwest.  
  • Traffic bound for the following areas can continue to use the North Diagonal, South Diagonal, and Sid Snyder Avenue: 
    • Governor’s Mansion 
    • Temple of Justice 
    • Legislative Modular Building 
    • Flag Circle 
    • Adjacent parking areas 
  • Traffic leaving these areas will travel south along Cherry Lane to Sid Snyder Avenue.  
  • During the street closure, parking on the west side of the General Administration Building is back-in only.
