​Deschutes Parkway road, path, and park will close for maintenance June 16-18

Deschutes Parkway is a 1.68-mile road along the west side of Capitol Lake with a sidewalk used by walkers, runners, and cyclists.

Seasonal work includes repainting restrooms, trimming brush, and fixing street lamps.

 On June 16, DES will close the Deschutes Parkway roadway and nearby walking paths for seasonal maintenance. The closure schedule is: 

  • June 16-17, 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.: Deschutes Parkway will close to vehicle traffic from Lakeridge to Fifth Avenue. 
  • June 16-18, 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.: Additional closures are in effect.
    • Deschutes Parkway: Roadside path.
    • Marathon Park: Entire park, including parking area and restrooms.
    • Restrooms at Capitol Lake Interpretive Center.
    • Pathway through Marathon Park to the bridge over Capitol Lake. 

Over the three-day period, DES staff will work on the following projects: 

  • Mow the brush along the lake.  
  • Replace broken light bulbs in streetlamps. 
  • Clean light poles and benches along the roadway.  
  • Paint the interior of the public restrooms at the Interpretive Center. 
  • Paint the markings on the road and restripe the Marathon Park parking lot.

This work will improve visitors’ experience during the summer months.

Deschutes Parkway runs from Tumwater to the west bay of Budd Inlet in Olympia. DES manages its lower section, a 1.68-mile road and trail along the west side of the Capitol Lake basin. The area includes public restrooms and a viewing dock at the Capitol Lake Interpretive Center.
