Flag raising at the Capitol celebrates Seahawks 50th season

Washington leaders, fans, and an NFL star came together to raise the Seahawks 50th season flag at the Washington state capitol.
The event was part of the team's "Countdown to Kickoff" initiative to mark the special milestone with various events and flag raisings across the region.
Community members gathered at the Capitol Campus Flag Circle on Wednesday, Sept. 3 to raise the flag. The event featured former Seahawks player and Tacoma native Marcus Trufant, who joined Gov. Bob Ferguson, Lt. Gov. Denny Heck, and Secretary of State Steve Hobbs to celebrate the milestone.
Visitors showed up in blue and green to help raise the flag and share the fun with Seahawks mascot Blitz. See more on our Instagram page: Washington State Capitol Campus (@wastatecapitol).
Gov. Ferguson, wearing a throwback #17 jersey for his favorite Seahawk Dave Krieg, commended the Seahawks for their community service.

"What they do out there in the community to support organizations all across the state is huge," said Ferguson. "That is something that goes beyond football. The team has supported 2,500 charities, and this year in 50 different communities to celebrate 50 years."
Marcus Trufant, former cornerback for the Seahawks and a player voted into the 50th anniversary team, told the crowd, "I've been a part of some great teams and some not-so-good teams. But the thing that remains consistent is the 12s, is the love in the community."
The event recording is available on TVW.org.
Capitol Campus is a place where civic life and community celebration intersect. As the Seahawks begin their 50th season, the anniversary flag reminds us of the team’s history and the strong bond it shares with our beautiful state.
