As Memorial Day approaches, tour guides at the Capitol Campus are revealing the stories of people who've served in the U.S. armed forces and made sacrifices for their country.

You can sign up for a May tour of the Governor's Mansion that will pay tribute to the building's residents and family members who served in the U.S. military. Free public tours are available May 7 and 14, organized by the Governor's Mansion Foundation. Each visitor will receive a red poppy, a symbol of remembrance for those who've died in war.

You can enrich your visit to the campus with a tour of the monuments to Washingtonians who served in the Red Cross, the military, and law enforcement. DES offers one-hour guided tours by appointment, with limited availability. If you can't schedule a guided tour, here are three ways to prepare for a self-guided visit:

  1. Learn about these sites on the Artwork, Memorials & Monuments page at Capitol.wa.gov.
  2. Explore the website's interactive map.
  3. Choose another way to learn about the Capitol on our Self-Guided & Virtual Tours page.

We hope your visit to the Capitol's memorials is moving and enriching.

The Department of Enterprise Services manages the daily care and long-term planning for the state Capitol Campus, the seat of Washington state government. The campus includes 143 acres of buildings, grounds, infrastructure, memorials and art works, and the 260-acre Capitol Lake, which is being restored to an estuary.
