Water Street, 11th Avenue closed Jan. 9-10

Barricades indicate a closed road on the Capitol Campus.

Water Street and 11th Avenue SW is closed Jan. 9-10.

What 

DES installed a vehicle barrier at a key entry point to West Campus. The barrier, which is level with the roadway, can be raised in the event of a threat to the safety of Capitol visitors, workers, or public officials.  

We are completing the final installation work. During this time, the street is closed. 

Where 

Water Street and 11th Avenue SW, between Cherry Lane SW and Columbia Street SW, on West Campus.  

When 

Thursday, Jan. 9 through Friday, Jan. 10. 

Impacts 

Water Street Southwest and a portion of 11th Avenue SW are closed. Traffic bound for the following areas can continue to use the North Diagonal, South Diagonal, and Sid Snyder Avenue:  

  • Governor’s Mansion  
  • Temple of Justice  
  • Legislative Modular Building  
  • Flag Circle  
  • Adjacent parking areas

Traffic leaving these areas will travel south along Cherry Lane to Sid Snyder Avenue. During the street closure, parking on the west side of the General Administration Building is back-in only.

During the closure, the North Diagonal is the nearest alternate westward route.
